Wondering how to let your eyes do
the talking when you are serenaded by
a rush of emotions at the ceremonies?
Just a few simple tweaks to your
makeup routine is all it takes to
accentuate your eyes.

NO BAGGAGE
A bride-to-be must get her beauty
sleep—to ight the pufy under-eye
bags or those nightmarish dark circles.
The key is to stay well hydrated, drink at least eight-to-10 glasses of
water each day. For instant refreshment, use cucumber slices, while you’re
chatting on the phone, to cool down the tired eyes especially after a
long day at work or a shopping trip.

EYES WIDE OPEN
Dark circles can make your eyes appear smaller. The right concealer
can work on both dark and discoloured patches. It also illuminates
the entire eye area and draws attention to darker lashes. Choose a
shade that’s slightly lighter and warmer than your skin tone to brighten
and correct any blue or purple tinge. For a bigger-is-better efect,
colour the waterline with a lat, white eye pencil to instantly open
and brighten them. “Avoid putting a dark pencil on your waterline,”
advises Karim Rehman, celebrity makeup artist, L’oréal Paris.
“Keeping an eyelash curler handy is a must, as curled lashes open up
your eyes!” Rehman adds. When you’re applying an eye shadow or
liner, go all the way up to the extension of your crease, as you need
to pay attention to shadow placement.

SMALL WONDER
Start with an eye primer. If you have dry skin, choose a cream primer.
Brides with oily skin will have better results using a powdered one.
This will prevent the liner from smudging and the eye shadow from
creasing, while giving you long-lasting and shine-free wear. Tighten

your eyes with a waterproof eye pencil
or a gel eye liner, and apply a brush
along the upper and lower inner rims
of your eyelids. Use blacks and browns
for this part and stay clear of pastels
and whites. For those with big bold
eyes, tight-curl your lashes and apply
coats of mascara. That helps to hold
the curl in place, and adds thickness.

REFINEMENT DEFINED
Who doesn’t desire eyes that look awakened and alert? Using a white
pencil or white shadow right against the inner corners of your eyes, is
a step ahead in that direction. This technique makes the whites look
brighter and it will open up your eyes, instantly getting you that doe-
eyed appearance. To really deine your eyes, apply a thin line of eyeliner
in black or brown, khaki, plum or navy. Apply the eyeliner pencil or
liquid liner, gently pull the corner of your eye outward, forming a straight
line along your lashes. Starting at the inside corner and working towards
the outside, delicately trace a line with the pencil angled towards your
lashes. If you have droopy eyes, end in an faded-upward-stroke.

PALETTES AND PENS
“The perfect tool to play with colours is deinitely by using an eyeshadow
palette. It allows you to evolve your makeup. You can start with a really
delicate and nude look and then graduate to prominent smoky eyes,”
says Rehman. For those fond of coloured eye liners—eye pencils in
cooler tones like blues, help to make the whites of your eyes appear
brighter and bigger. Perfect colours to warm up to for your mehendi
ceremony. While black in kohled or dark-smoky eyes on the top and
lower edges make your eyes look heavier or smaller than they are,
they can be perfect for sangeets or at cocktail hours. With cream-based
eye shadows, less really is more. Cream shadows generally come in
small squeeze tubes that really enhance your eyes with a light application
across the lid, reaching up to your brows and creating some drama.
