L
ove happens across
continents and languages,
as the story of newlyweds
Himanshu Bhasin, the
owner of a production house
Karma, and Anna Yatskiv, a
Ukrainian model, would tell
us. A chance meeting at work,
followed by a sweeping romance
led to a proposal 2,000 feet above
the ground, on a hot air balloon
in Cappadocia, Turkey. “He kept
it as a surprise but somehow I had
a feeling he would do it this way,”
beams Anna. The wedding was a
perfect blend of cultures with the
bride donning a pristine white
gown on her walk down the aisle,
and a tangerine pink ensemble for
the Indian wedding ceremony.
When asked about her favourite
function, she ponders a while
and says,“I’m torn between the
ring ceremony, which gave me an
emotional high, and the reception
full of vibrancy, happiness, and
of course, a lot of dancing.”
The couple settled into nuptial
bliss on a beautiful sunny day at
Suryagarh, Jaisalmer, with the
desert city providing the perfect
backdrop for their love story.The
décor had custom-made, refined
white flower arrangements flown
in from Mumbai, while the team at
Suryagarh decorated the mandap
erected on a pool of marigolds
and fresh rose petals.The ivory
custom-made Geisha Designs by
Paras and Shalini gown adorned
with lace, embroidery, and a long
trail, was cut out for the fairytale,
as the bride got ready to take her
vows. For the pheras, she opted
for a bright fuchsia and orange
lehenga accessorised with kundan
jewellery, making it a perfect fit
for the traditional ceremony.
Talking about her wedding,“It
was more than I ever expected!”
recalls Anna. “There were
some emotional and humorous
moments and albeit the difficulties,
I’m glad we managed to combine
our cultures into one beautiful
wedding,” she breaks it down
for us. Away from the bustle
of the city, the enchanting folk
music, earthy fragrances, chimes
of cheering wine glasses and
a sumptuous spread of global
cuisine created a sensory delight
for the couple on their special day.
“Who knew a guy could fall
in love with a girl 4,500 km
away. Theyshare a chemistry,
which translates in the pictures
beautifully,” the photographers,
Neeraj Hinduja and Amit
Somvanshi, sign off, echoing
the sentiments captured by the
shots. As for the cross-cultural
moodboard, there’s ample
inspiration for the DIY bride.■
