FA BUL O U S

at Every Event

By Nirja Dutt

Design and aesthetic has always been an integral part of Amrish
Pershad’s life. What began as love for all things beautiful in the
garment export and design industry (where he worked for almost
a decade) traversed into the wedding space when he was asked by
a friend to help in putting together their wedding.
This changed his perspective completely and led him
to move on to thelower business.“Flowers have always
been my passion. It is what made me want to switch
from the garments and design work,” he tells us.When
asked about the importance of lowers at weddings,
he explains,“No event today is complete without
aesthetically executed fresh lower décor.Though a lot
of people are now gravitating to artiiciallowers, I
personally don’t think they can achieve the grace that
fresh blooms can. I also feel strongly about quality over
quantity and incorporate this philosophy into every project I do.”
He achieved new heights in his career when he was asked to design
the sets of Mira Nair’sMonsoon Weddingin 2001.And by 2006, he

was a well known name working with events and companies around
the world including the Commonwealth Games. It was this that
gave him a push to start his own wedding design company that now
works on every aspect from the theme to the ensembles. And as a
special, here’s his breakdown to BAZAAR BRIDE
on 2016 weddings.“Fabrics, drapes, linen, exotic lowers,
intelligent lighting, and the use of latest technology
like video-mapped LED strips are the need of the
hour. When selecting fabrics like damasks, jacquard,
crepes, chifon, and georgettes, or textures like prints,
appliqué work, and hand embroidery, make sure they
are high in quality and work well with your theme.
Less is more and it always makes a statement. Destination
weddings are also a major trend this year. I suggest that
you choose the location based on the theme you would
like for your wedding. My current favourites are Rajasthan, Hyderabad,
Mauritius, Italy,Turkey, and Greece. Each of them has so much to
ofer. The unique venues will take your breathaway!”
