ubiquitous “Old Town Road” –have been a number of
artists who landed their first song on the Hot 100
charts this summer.
USA TODAY’s Maeve McDermott highlights sin-
gles from the rising pop stars, rappers and other

King: The Gift” album, is far from her first
Hot 100 hit. It is, however, the first chart
entry for 7-year-old Blue Ivy Carter, and
won’t be her last if she follows in her
famous parents’ footsteps.

“Truth Hurts”
LizzoIn early May, just before summer started,
Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” debuted at the
bottom of the Hot 100. As the singer’s
popularity steadily rose in the following
months, so would the song’s chart posi-
tion, sitting this week at No. 4.
“The Git Up”
Blanco BrownDon’t call it the next “Old Town Road” –
Brown’s “trailer-trap” hit, as he likes to call
it, is a hit all its own, debuting on the Hot
100 in June and, unlike Lil Nas X’s hit,
maintaining a presence on the publica-
tion’s country charts as well.

ShaedThe track from the D.C. electropop trio
spent months on the alternative and pop
songs charts before entering the Hot 100
in early June.

Lil TeccaThe teenage Queens rapper landed his
first song on the Hot 100 in early June.

Hot 100 entry in June.PLAYLISTLana Del Rey felt moved enough by the recent
shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio to share a
new song, “Looking for America,” with fans.
The 34-year-old singer shared a video on Instagram
of her singing the simple, haunting new song in an
empty music studio, accompanied by producer Jack
Antonoff – with whom she recorded her forthcoming
album, “Norman (Expletive) Rockwell” – playing gui-
tar.
“I’m still looking for my own version of America /
One without the guns, where the flag can freely fly / No
bombs in the sky, only fireworks when you and I collide
/ It’s just a dream I had in mind,” she sings on the
chorus.
In the post’s caption, Del Rey explained that she
and Antonoff recorded the song when she reached
out to him after the shootings, which she says affect-
ed her “on a cellular level.”
“Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying
to be so excuse me for having an opinion - but in light
of all of the mass shootings and the back to back
shootings in the last couple of days which really af-
fected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this
video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago,”
she wrote. “I hope you like it. I’m singing love to the
choruses I recorded this morning. I’m going to call it
‘Looking for America.‘”
Del Rey’s “Norman (Expletive) Rockwell,” her first
full-length release since 2017’s “Lust for Life,” arrives
