THORNE & DAUGHTERS
WANDERER’S HEART CAPE RED
BLEND 2018, R260
There’s no Pinotage in this blend.
I’ve included it in the line-up as
winemaker, John Seccombe,
styles it as a “Cape Red”. To
him it means paying homage
to “the incredible vineyards
found all over the Western
Cape that this wine is built
from.” A complex tribute of
grenache noir from the Voor-
Paardeberg, cinsaut from the
Bottelary, grenache gris from
Wellington, and mourvèdre
and shiraz from Bot River.
It’s a vinous snapshot of
some of the country’s finest
terroirs – and the wine is
appropriately luminous in
response. Pure fruit meets
soft, chalky tannins with
aromatics of rosemary oil
and sandalwood.
