Don’t expect to see Kelly McGillis,
62, reprising her role as Charlie, the
flight instructor who romanced Tom
Cruise’s Maverick, in the upcoming
Top Gun sequel. ‘I’m old, I’m fat
and I look age-appropriate for
what my age is, and that is not
what that whole scene is about,’
she said. ‘I’d much rather feel
absolutely secure in my skin and
who and what I am at my age, as
opposed to placing a value on all
that other stuff.’ You tell ’em, Kelly!
THEY SAID WHAT?!
MIRANDA – SERIES 1-3
Settle in for every

Miranda Hart and Tom
Ellis. Such fun!

... signing up for Strictly
I literally can’t dance...
I’m terrified. When I was
at theatre school, I always
swerved dance classes
because I was really big
and was so self-conscious.
So I thought, ‘I need to do
this, as I’ve always shied
away from it.’ It’s going to
be like therapy. It will be
a real challenge for me.
... the Strictly curse
My hubby, Tom, is so
chilled about it all! We’re
just both relieved it’s out
there that I’m actually
doing it. It’s been so hard
keeping it all a secret –
even my nan doesn’t know
I’m in the show yet! I’ve
felt like a part of the FBI
for months...
... keeping fit
Tom has been helping me
get fitter – it’s handy that
he’s a personal trainer. It’ll
all help with the dancing!
I’ve been so busy filming
recently that I’ve hardly
gone to the gym. But
I really am trying to do
more cardio.
... new acting roles
I’ve just finished
Scarborough for the BBC,
which is a new comedy
that starts at the same
time as Strictly. It’s me
and Jason Manford. I’ve
also finished another
comedy pilot, but I don’t
want anything else coming
in because I can’t dance
and I really need to focus!
● Strictly returns to
BBC One in September.
