MILLER & KREISEL

750 SERIES REDUX

Miller & Kreisel introduced the first true update in 20 years to its 750
Series. ‘The new 750s now use M&K’s own customised Danish designed and
produced tweeters,’ said Paul Riachi of Indi Imports. ‘Plus M&K has
also taken the innovative high-performance technologies and components
from the S150 Series and integrated them into this new 750 Series.’
The new 750 Series uses 28mm-diameter coated soft dome tweeters
fitted with vented voice coils for higher power-handling (older models
had 25mm diameter tweeters). Transient performance has been
improved through the use of a resonance-damped tweeter magnet-
system. Dispersion and frequency response have been improved
through the provision of an integrated waveguide combined with a
short horn. The 133mm diameter mass/midrange drivers on the new
750 Series have stiff coated fibreglass cones, vented pole pieces and
voice coils and aluminium flux-shorting rings. ‘The original 750 was the
world’s first THX Select-approved loudspeaker,’ says Riachi, ‘and this new
Miller & Kreisel 750 Series redefines sound performance as well as celebrates
the design’s 20th anniversary as one of Miller & Kreisel’s most trusted and
awardedloudspeakers.’

ORTOFON SUPER

OM 5E

Danish manufacturer Ortofon has added a new phono cartridge to its
famous OM 5 Series—the Super OM 5E. Though it’s very obviously
based on the entry-level OM 5S, Ortofon says this ‘Super’ version has a
more extended frequency response and increased separation between
left and right channels, plus it has an elliptical stylus, for improved
tracking and reduced distortion. ‘Designed with sophisticated computer
simulations and built using incredibly precise machining, the Super OM 5E
is the pinnacle of the OM 5 Series,’ said Sam Encel, of Interdyn, which
distributes Ortofon in Australia. ‘Its elliptical stylus tracks the grooves of
a record with ease and grace, for a more detailed, clearer sound, and because
of its light weight, the Super OM 5E is compatible with just about any
tonearm, making it an easy upgrade for a vinyl beginner or a terrific option
for a second system.’ As you’d imagine, the stylus of the Super OM 5E is
interchangeable with other OM styli.
Ortofon specs the frequency response of the Super OM 5E as
20–20,000 Hz ±2dB, the channel separation as 22dB (at 1kHz) and the
channel balance at 1kHz as 1.5dB. Output voltage is 4mV. Available
now,theSuperOM5Esellsfor$129(RRP).
