“...the results were huge.”

STEPHEN DAWSON, AUSTRALIAN HI-FI

“11db increase in overall signal to

noise ratio and 8db improvement to

the peak noise floor”

DAVE ASKEW, MEDIA DMA, USA

 Wharfedale has two new AUSTRALIAN MADE
flagship models in the Elysian
2 and 4; these have AMT
planar tweeters designed in
the US and midrange and bass
drivers that were designed
in collaboration with Danish
manufacturer Scanspeak.
Both models have slot ports
and wide baffles for ‘free and
easy energy flow and good
dynamics.’

The styling change is largely down to a darker brushed alumin-
ium finish and the halo effect control wheel, while a pricing
change means the Mu-so 2 costs £1,299.
Elipson from France was the first speaker maker to put a drive
unit in a ‘head’ atop a bass cabinet back in the sixties, and the
company’s relatively new owner—AV Industries—has revived this
approach with the Elipson Legacy 3230. This substantial model
combines an AMT planar tweeter with a ceramic midrange in a
‘head’ made of glass fibre, resin and stone. It sits on an 80-li-
tre cabinet with a pair of paper, ceramic and aluminium bass
drivers. The cabinet incorporates rear fixing of the bass units and
three types of damping in a walnut veneer finish. Elipson is also
making the BS 50 Tribute (€3,990) which is an even more retro
homage to the legendary BS50 Chambord speaker first released
in 1948. It has the same cool spherical design where the driver
fires up into a reflective ‘sound mirror’ on a 50cm ball with
tripod legs.
Dynaudio has put the finishing touches to the Confidence
range and was demonstrating the Confidence 30 with a Moon
system to great effect, especially when the Brand New Heavies
played a song through them. The Danish outfit also showed
the stylish new Evoke range of relatively affordable loudspeak-
ers which starts at £1,250 for the Evoke 10 standmount, runs
through the Evoke 20 which has a lot of Special 40 in it and also
includes two floorstanders, the Evoke 30 at £2,900 and the Evoke
50 at £3,900. The range has a new tweeter that has a hard dim-
pled dome beneath the soft dome which we’re told ‘enhances
dynamics thanks to improved internal aerodynamics’.
