THE HI–FI HEADLINES

NEWSLETTER No.

This new pricing paradigm for Australia really works in our

favour when the products are locally manufactured (which

is unfortunately all too rare). The brilliant Mu.2 bookshelf

speakers from Serhan & Swift sell in the UK for £4,

(A$9k) – and I believe that they are highly
respected at that price. Here they sell for $6,499!
The other obvious example is the Duntech
Senator speakers. I understand they sell for around
50% more than the local price overseas and are
very popular. We still maintain that at $20,
the pair the Senators represent one of the great
bargains of this industry.
While on the subject of speakers Bowers

and Wilkins are currently holding their Trade-in & Trade-up

promotion. This was extremely successful when it ran last year,

and we are sure it will prove to be the same again this time

around. Until the end of August you will receive a guaranteed

minimum trade-in value on any pair of working speakers

when you trade-up against a new pair of B&Ws. This is a great

opportunity to move up to a better pair of speakers and save

some money along the way. More information is available on

our website at http://www.lenwallisaudio.com.au.

T

he new, and hotly anticipated, Musical Fidelity
M6sPre Pre-Amplifier and matching M6sPrx Power
Amplifier have finally landed in our showroom
(silver finish only at this stage). There were only a
handful coming into the country in this first shipment,
and some of them are already spoken for, so if you are
interested in having a listen I would suggest that you
take the opportunity to do so sooner rather than later.
The pre-amplifier is a fully balanced Class A design
with XLR inputs and outputs and features a USB
and a switchable MM/MC phono stage. The M
power amplifier is a fully balanced dual-mono design

outputting 230 watts/channel. As you would expect
from Musical Fidelity this is an excellent sounding
combination, reinforcing their reputation as master
amplifier manufacturers.
This release is also a reminder of how inexpensive
some of the products we sell are in Australia compared
to overseas markets. Despite being a European brand,
in the UK the M6sPre sells for £1,999 (A$3,590) and
the M6sPrx sells for £2,599 (A$4,688). In Australia
they are $2,999 and $4,499 respectively. Long gone
are the days when Hi-Fi in Australia was considerably
more expensive than anywhere else in the world.

Stax have released
the Mk11 versions
of their L-500 and
L-700 electrostatic
Earspeakers. While the
differences are minor,
they have upgraded
the headband to
aluminium and
introduced removeable
cables, there is an
improvement in
performance – primarily as they now sit
more snugly on your head. The interest in
Head-Fi continues to grow, and Stax are
perfectly positioned to take advantage of this.
There can be no doubt that they arguably
manufacture the finest headphones in the
world. On more than one occasion I have
read reviewers’ comments that after listening
to Stax headphones their appreciation for all
other headphones has been tainted.
