her grandmother’s china and Matt’s grand-
mother’s china. “It was always in boxes, and I
could never use it,” she says. “I really wanted a
space that I could easily access it while I was
entertaining.”
While the family boasts their love for all
the rooms in the home, the warm and inviting
breakfast area is a favorite due to its vibrant
wallpaper, coordinating chairs, and the array of
large windows. “I really think the wallpaper
makes the room,” says Harvey. “We took the hint
of light blue from it and painted the ceiling that
color. The biggest challenge when designing the
home came down to one of the smallest rooms—
Matt’s study. It needed to serve as a place not only
to work but also to read, relax, and wind down.
Harvey chose an octagonal patterned grass cloth
for the walls and brought in the bright blue paint
to tie the color scheme to the rest of the home.
“We looked for a long time to find the perfect
lot to build this house,” says Amy. The neighbor-
hood is absolutely lovely and has a lot of big,
beautiful trees, but it is still fairly close to DC—
we think it’s a very special place.”

office was a challenge to Harvey because it needed to serve many functions. The family uses
it as a space to relax, work, and sometimes have cocktails with friends. This page, left: The
