As the fall season approaches and brings its long-
awaited cooler temperatures, softer colors, and familiar feeling
of autumnal magic, homeowners and designers alike are
inspired to incorporate nature’s beauty into their décor and
furnishings. Whether you prefer to spend your evenings
entertaining friends with dinner and cocktails or with quiet,
simple moments surrounded by family, the homes featured in
this issue are picture perfect for any such occasion. A seamless
connection between indoor and outdoor spaces—like the one
homeowners Lori and Chris Sholota created (page 93)—is ideal
for taking in the splendor of the season while enjoying morning
coffee or an evening meal. The couple worked with a local
architect to ensure the structure of their new build fit gently
into the landscape, as if it had always been there. For those who
want to enjoy the rusticity of natural scenery while keeping
their spaces modern and sharp, designers José Solís Betancourt
and Paul Sherrill achieved just that while dressing a fabulous
hillside home complete with river views (page 83). In Tennessee,
the Hannon Douglas design team worked to create a striking
English-inspired residence that features panoramic views of the
mountains and a stone facade that gives a gracious welcome to
all that approach (page 63). For clients with dreams of a lakeside
estate that could serve as a vacation getaway for years to come,
designer Stephen Shutts mixed styles that honored the
homeowners’ favorite travel destinations and paid special
attention to the layering of antiques with modern pieces
page 43). Autumn is a time of transition and happy changes,
