homethatwasgeneratedbylaterallythinkingabouta
novelandchallengingdesignbrief.Althoughtheproject
ismorethan 1000 squaremetresinsize,thefootprint
ofthelivingquartersisonlya verysmallproportionof
thisspaceandthemajorityofthefloorareaisgivenover
toa leafy,productivegarden.Thejourneythroughthe
110-metre-longshedtakesyoufromtheworkingfarm
tothecosylivingquarters,withlayersofmaturetrees,
vinesandother plants growing in all the spaces
between.
Farmpropertiesusuallycomprisea series
ofbuildingsdottedthroughoutthelandscape,withall
thevariousfunctionsseparated.Containingallthree
elements– a home,a commercialcookingschooland
a workingfarmbuilding– withintheoneprefabricated
shedstructurecleverlyremovestheneedforwater-
proofingthebuildingswithin.Themodularwaythat
theDaylesfordLonghouseispiecedtogethergives
theimpressionthattheshedmightbeextendedin
thefuturetocontainmoregardenoraccommodation
spaces.Thisprojectisinventive in every way and would
be a delight to inhabit.
