functiontoprovidelightand power to the inner-city

suburbofDarlinghurst.

Theadaptationoftheformersubstationintoa

compactthree-storeyhomecelebrateslight,bothnatural

andartificial,throughskilfullydetailedbrise-soleil,

metalscreens,lightshaftsandvenetianglassbricks.

Thehermeticbrickstructureinheritedfrom

theindustrialerahasbeengentlyandlovinglyopened

uptorelatewitha morebenignpost-industrial

Darlinghurst,itstreesandthelaneways.Thispast-

centuryworkhorsebuildinghasbeensanctifiedwith

a sparklingcrystalroofextension,servingasa crown

or aureole that appears to softly dissolve into the sky.
