a little chat with... molly burch

How would you describe your music to your nanna?
Pretty chill and nostalgic. I think you’d like it, Nanna.
What can we expect from your live show? We have a
really fun time, so hopefully that shows! I have a five-
piece band and I don’t play guitar live anymore, as I
prefer to just sing. It makes me feel more present.
What do you spend your downtime doing? I like to
wear cosy pyjamas, watch TV, eat ice-cream, and
cuddle my cat. I love relaxing at home and getting
alone time. What’s your music mantra? You do you.
Weirdest thing you’ve done to make a buck? My
worst job was working at a chain ice-cream shop,
where you have to wear a silly hat and sing a jingle
when you get tipped (I refused to). Best and worst
parts of making music? Best: travelling, being with
friends, doing something I love. Worst: when sound
engineers fuck up. You get a feedback noise in your
monitor and your ears feel damaged. Also: creepy
guys. What inspired the new record? All the changes
that happened in my life since my first album. I got
a new band, lost some friendships, and learned a
lot about being a leader. Favourite thing about your
hometown? My favourite thing about Los Angeles,
where I grew up, is the perfect weather. My favourite
thing about Austin, Texas, where I currently live, is
Barton Springs Pool and eating lots of tacos.

eyes on you
If we’re being honest, these Eyes on You
earrings from Aussie label Champ seem a
bit fed up with the idea of decorating our
lobes. Which is a shame, really, because we’re
positively champing at the bit to dangle the
recycled rubber lovelies from our ear holes.
They’re made from old aeroplane tyres – how
cool is that? Cool enough not to look quite so
glum, we reckon. $65, champ.co
