getting to know... jaguar jonze

Where did your stage name come from? It was a
nickname that came up when people saw the contrast
between my daily persona as a bubbly, sunshine-y girl
and my on-stage presence, which can be dark and
moody. Describe your music in five words. Fragile,
driving, sombre, haunting, smoky. When do you feel most
creative? I know musicians are usually vampires, but I’m a
sunflower and need natural light. I love sitting by windows.
What are your hobbies? I have a huge problem with
hobbies. I love drawing, eating, fixing motorbikes, riding
dirt bikes, scuba diving, photography, acting and more.
Make me stop. Any highlights from your time growing up
in Japan? I had a cute Sailor Moon-like school uniform;
got to throw soybeans at adults wearing oni (devil) masks
at festivals; threw hammers into rice to make mochi;
and went to Disneyland when I was a good girl. Which TV
show would you write a song for? If Sex and the City did a
reunion season, I’d write a sultry banger the ladies could
strut to in Jimmy Choos. Do you have a dream gig you’d
like to play? Brisbane holds a special place in my heart.
I’ve always loved The Tivoli – I’ve been going to gigs there
since I was 14, and the interior is beautiful. I’d love to play
a sold-out headline show there one day.

ivy niu

The pattern on this IVY NIU
pinny reminds us of drawing
mountains as a little tacker –
all bubbly and round and fun.
Coincidentally, they’re the
words we’d use to describe the
feelings you get when you wear
the jolly dress (well, maybe not
round, but who knows after a
sizeable lunch). Designed in
Brissie and featuring adjustable
straps and a handy-dandy chest
pocket, it’ll set you back $

erin lightfoot
Do not trust Brisbane
ceramicistErin Lightfoot.
She’s called this here object
the Terrace Boat vase,
and while yes, it may be a
vessel of sorts, it’s not a
boat at all! Rather, it’s a
Modernism-inspired holder
of foliage and flowers that
spendsmost of its time
residing safely on dry
land. Luckily, we think it’s
pretty neat to look at, so
we’ll forgive Erin for the
misleadingname just this
time. $89,erinlightfoot.com

nelson made sandals
Forget penguins – we’re pretty sure Happy Feet
was supposed to be written about 10 jolly toes
who’d been squeezed into a pair of these woven
slides from Melbourne brand Nelson Made.
After all, wouldn’t you be jumping for joy if you
spent your days wiggling around in the summer
air, while gently strapped in with comfy veggie-
tanned leather? Sounds pretty great to us.
