Following rapid growth in recent years, Fylde Coast
Accident Repair Centre in Blackpool has just moved to a
£2m purpose-built facility. The family-owned business
was started by Dave Hyland back in 1982 and has been
operating in the Blackpool area ever since. Dave felt it
was important to look ahead and secure the future of
the company by making the right investments for the
next generation.

Understanding the automotive industry’s push toward
hybrid and electric vehicles, Dave and son Dane knew
this needed to be a core capability of their new premises.
They sought to streamline their workshop processes,

retention, the Hylands also sought to accommodate
their large workforce at the new facility - aiming to
attract talent from across the region.

The site features three electric vehicle charge points

electric vehicles, while many of the technicians have
undertaken training to safely work on them.

Training and continuous improvement were a paramount
consideration to the Fylde Coast team, with the new
facility boasting a training room. The new site also

The Hyland’s turned to LKQ Coatings and Workshop
Solutions to help develop a state-of-the-art repair
centre. With a blank canvas and Dave’s blessing, the two

‘The team from LKQ Coatings provided us with vital
guidance from the very beginning,’ explained Dave
Hyland, founder and manager, Fylde Coast ARC.
‘I trusted them completely and accepted many of
their suggestions and ideas. Our monthly output has
increased by 54% and we are still working to identify
opportunities for further optimisation. The result has
surpassed all expectations and has set us up for success
in the years to come.’

LKQ Coatings worked with the Hylands to perfect
the processes, products, reporting and training
for the business’ new era. Central to this was the
standardisation of the workshop’s procedures and the
implementation of a KPI portal to evaluate costs and
maintain margins. The transformation also included the

Workshop Solutions was also involved from the
beginning, helping to design the layout of the workshop
and the adjoining facilities. From the carpark to the
orientation of the spray booths, the team at Workshop
Solutions were able to provide crucial guidance.

With the team settling into the new premises, Dane is
excited by the potential of what they have created. As
the future leader of the business, it was essential to the
Hylands that Dane’s vision and ambition were at the core
of the new facility.
