Hilton Head Concours
leader Vanagel to retire
HILTON HEAD, S.C. _ Carolyn Vanagel, the long-time
president for the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance
& Motoring Festival, will retire after this year’s event, which
concludes Nov. 3. Vanagel, who has served in the role as presi-
dent for the last 16 years, was responsible for building the
event from a two-day show with 6,000 attendees to what it
has become today — a 10-day lifestyle event with more than
20,000 visitors from around the world.

If you were going to be handcuffed
to one car for a year in 1928, a new
Auburn sedan wasn’t a bad place
to be. Endurance driver “Dare Devil
Warner” started from Bright Bump
Sales Co. of Los Angeles in May 192
and planned to visit “every city inth
United States” during his year-long
adventure, all the while in sealed
handcuffs. The Auburn appears
specially outfi tted with a box on the
running board, three non-standard
headlamps, an unknown apparatus
in place of the front bumper and
optional Smith steel wheels.
