Rousham represents the first phase of English landscape design, and remains almost as William Kent left it,
one of the few gardens of this date to have escaped alteration. Many features which delighted 18th century
visitors to Rousham are still in situ, such as the ponds and cascades in Venus’s Vale, the Cold Bath and seven-
arched Praeneste, Townsend’s Building, the Temple of the Mill, and, on the skyline, a sham ruin known as the
‘Eyecatcher’.
OPEN: Daily from 10am, last admission 4.30pm. No children under 15 and no dogs. Entry fee £8 per person.

Be inspired by one of the world’s finest conifer collections at Bedgebury Pinetum. Explore 350 acres of rolling
Wealden countryside with awe-inspiring mature trees. Enjoy a walk around The Art of Trees outdoor exhibition
with botanically accurate drawings and paintings of Bedgebury’s tree collection. Over a hundred unique
artworks by the Bedgebury Pinetum Florilegium Society highlight the beauty and diversity of the pinetum’s
plants in this free exhibition.
OPEN: Every day from 8am except Christmas Day. Closing time 8pm from 1 May to 1 September,
7pm from 2-30 September and 6pm from 1-24 October.

Dotted along the banks of the 38-acre lake at Hever Castle, beautiful flower meadows now cover an area of
4,500 square metres improving biodiversity and functionality in areas that had previously been dominated by
aggressive species. The gorgeous pinks of Cosmos dominate in early September but if you are looking for
meadow inspiration, or just love to enjoy a floriferous display, visit these biodiverse sites and see the changing
flowers from June to November.

Just a stone’s throw from Cambridge, Anglesey Abbey has a new garden highlight every season. For autumn,
enjoy the three week Dazzling Dahlia celebration (9–29 September), which emphasises the beauty of the
garden’s colourful dahlia collection in the Formal Garden and Dahlia Border, complimented by a variety of
pop-up artistic installations in the grounds and around the House.
