CAN VISUALISATION CHANGE
YOUR LIFE?
A few years ago, I misplaced a cat. My
friend’s feline, Leo, was staying with me
while her mom was travelling, and on
Day 2, I woke up to find him missing. I
spent all day and night searching the
streets, putting up ‘Lost Cat’ posters,
going door to door to check if any
neighbours had seen a tabby cat, and
basically driving myself into a puddle of
guilt and tears. On Night 5, there was
still no news of Leo. I had made myself
physically sick with angst by then, and
decided I would call my friend the next

day, to give her the terrible news. That
night, as I tossed and turned in bed, I
remembered something I had read
about visualisation and miracles. Now,
I’m a science-trumps-all kinda girl, but I
was desperate. And so, as I drifted off to
sleep, I imagined that Leo had
returned. I ‘saw’ him in my mind,
casually walking into the room as if
nothing had happened, and I imagined
the relief and joy I would feel when that
happened. An hour later, my phone
rang—my neighbour could hear a cat
meowing in the shaft...it was Leo, I kid
you not, perched atop a ledge (and
stinking of dead rats).
This was my first real experience with
visualisation, and I still get goosebumps
thinking about it. But soon, I came
across thousands of stories of people
manifesting their desires using focused
intention. Athletes apply the principles
of mental imagery before a big game, to
boost performance. Psychologists use
suggested thought patterns to heal
trauma and alter limiting beliefs. And
scores of leaders and entrepreneurs
have spoken about how they tapped
into the power of mind energy to make
their goals a reality (including Oprah
and Jim Carey). Visualisation, as
anyone who has tried it will tell you, can
make you more positive, creative,
confident, and successful
It’s not a newfangled idea, and you’ve
probably heard of it before. But most of
us don’t do it. And so I’m here to be your

pushy coach and tell you that you need
to apply this technique to your life, right
now. Especially if you’ve been struggling
with your dream career. Or wondering
how you’ll make your future fabulous.
Or feeling stuck or lost or hopeless.
For the next 12 months, forget about
the obstacles, ‘hows’, and ‘buts’ in the
way of your perfect life. Instead, single-
mindedly focus on the things you
desire. I want you to write down your
loftiest dreams and put that paper in
your wallet. Make a vision board with
pictures of your ideal existence. Picture
every single juicy detail as if in a movie.
And then internalise—like, really feel—
all of those amazing things happening
for you. The joy, the happiness, the
pride. The smell of that new car, the
warmth of the beach holiday in Ibiza. I
want you to do this dreaming every
single day and night, until it becomes a
part of your daily routine.
I truly hope you will be the forecaster
of your own life, and make your biggest
dreams come true...
Until next month,

Yes, mismatched earrings are still a
