THISyear,boththestudbook
andWestCountryharrierswere
showninthesamering,but
mostlyinseparateclasses.While
thismadeforaninteresting
day,it resultedin 13 classes
intheafternoonand 11 inthe
morning,whichinevitablytook a
considerabletimetojudge.
Heythropmasterand
huntsmanCharlesFrampton
andAndrewCook,masterand
huntsmanoftheDumfriesand
Stewartry,judgedthedoghounds
andwerepleasedtoseea returnto
theribbonsforthePendleForest
andCravenintheunentered
studbookclasswiththeirsmart
Landmark.Thiswasa 40th
Peterboroughfortheirhuntsman
RichardLloyd, a ringmaster of the
first water.
Harrierveterans
shine,a shocked
MarkGuyis
festoonedin
bassetrosettes,
andthere’sa
fittingwinnerfor
thebloodhound
trophy
AxeValeTrapperandTeacher
tooktheunenteredWestCountry
class.Theywereexceptionally
high-qualityyounghoundsand
excellent examples of the type.
Theywouldhavebeencompetitive
inthedoghoundchampionship
hadunenteredhoundsbeen
allowedtocontestit.
Theeventualchampion,
HolcombeBrindle 18 —a sonof
theirCharger 11 —andhisbrother
Blackrod 18 wonthecouples
class.Theyarestrikinglysimilar
instamp,sizeandcolouring,and
were obvious winners ahead of
