On 4July,Tutankhamun’scoffin went on display at the
Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, to show howrepair work
is progressing.Tutankhamunwasanancient Egyptian king
whosecoffin wasfound in 1922. Thecoffin isroughly 3,
years old and has been damaged over time. This is the first
attempt torestoreits inceits discovery.

Newtravelrulesannouncedforwomen
On 2August, itwasannounced that women over the age
of 21 in Saudi Arabiacannow travel abroad withoutamale
relative’spermission.Women will also be able toregister
births, marriages and divorcesand apply for passports by
themselves. Despite this, women in Saudi Arabia still do not
have the same rights as men;they still needamale relative’s
permission to get married or live on their own.

Russianarmysent to fightforestfires
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has sent the army to
help put out huge forest fires in Siberia, in the north-east of
the country.Anareaofaround 30,000 squarekilometres,
which isroughly the sizeofBelgium, has been affected. The
fires brokeout because of hot weather and thunderstorms,
and the smokehas engulfed towns in theregion. Luckily the
blazes areinr emote parts of thecountry and arenot thought
to posearisk to humans.

On 1August, Rwanda shut its
border forafew hours with
the neighbouring Democratic
Republic ofCongo (DRC) to try and
stop the spreadoft he Ebola virus.
The DRC has been struggling to
contain an outbreakoft he virus,
which has killed morethan 1,
people in the past year.The World
Health Organization has declared
Ebolaaglobal health emergency,
which is its highest level of alarm,
but said that itwasnot necessary
to close the border.Asaresult it
has nowreopened.
