COLOUR
MASTER
Harper’s Bazaar: What is
it about your Middle
Eastern customers that
keeps you coming back
to Dubai?
Negin Zand: Being
Persian myself I can relate
to the culture. I have worked with some of
the nicest clients, and they have turned into
the most beautiful friendships. HB: How do
your Arab clients differ from those in LA?
NZ: My Arab clients have much deeper red
tones and usually they do not like to see these,
so I use a different colour line to neutralise the
warmth and red that their hair usually shows.
HB: What are easy mistakes to make when
colouring dark hair? NZ: The biggest
mistake I see when it comes to colouring dark
hair is people taking the colour too light. Dark
hair when lightened will attract more red and
will end up brassy over time. HB: How do
you maintain coloured hair, especially
living in the sun? NZ: Try to not wash your
hair more than needed. Two to three times a
week is best, using shampoo formulated for
colour-treated hair. You should also always
use products that contain an SPF to protect
your hair from the sun. The sun can
dehydrate and cause your colour to fade
much faster than usual. Rinse your hair
with a bottle of fi ltered water after
swimming or being out in the sun.
HB: Who have been your favourite
celebrity clients? NZ: Sarah Jessica
Parker, Diane Lane, Cate Blanchett and
Jane Fonda. They are very down to earth,
and over the years they have not only been
clients of mine, but have also become friends.
