to change this, what’s not working anymore,

what does still work, which items would you

like to keep, which ones will definitely have

to go, will there be a new purpose for this

room, what atmosphere would you like to

create... The key is to imagine yourself and

your family using this space once the

project is finished so you work backwards to

achieve the end results.

On the Doorstep caught up with Kaya from KaVaRa Home Styling to get some top tips on designing our homes.

Measurements

Take measurements before you even start to browse

for the items you want to buy. This will save you time

and ensure disappointments are kept to a minimum.

Where possible, order samples. It is so worth seeing

colours and fabrics in their glory before you buy the

item.

Take time to browse your favourite sites, apps and

magazines for inspiration. Save the ones that really

speak to you and go back to them to check you are

still in love with these after a few days. You can also

use them as a mood board. This will help you keep in

line with your vision throughout the project.

Happy shopping! Now, this is definitely an exciting

part of any project so enjoy it. At the same time, any

items you didn’t want to keep in the anymore, look to

sell, donate or discard them before your new

purchases arrive.
