Educated intelligent business
women often shy away from
visibility, this negatively impacts
upon your business, how can you
serve people with your product or
service if you are not willing to be
seen or heard?
As a Business Coach, I often hear “I
feel like a fraud” or “Ive just been
lucky”, “right place at the right time” if
you think like this then you are
probably suffering from Imposter
Syndrome, you live in constant fear of
people finding you out, exposing you
as a fake.
One of my clients Alice, has a super
business, she delivers excellent work,
she has worked her circle of influence
well, received some referrals but after
a 18 months she has plateud within
her business. I just cant seem to
break through and bring in more
business.
We explored her marketing, or rather
lack of it and identified she doesn’t
want to put herself out there on
Social Media, as she is concerned
people will find her lacking, what if
she fails, she is full of fear. Fear is the
acronym for False Expectations
Appearing Real. We assessed her
clients over the last couple of years
and discovered not one single client
had stopped working with her due to
poor work delivered.
In fact she had a string of raving fans
who had given her testimonials.
Another client Naomi was in complete
despair, she had a great business
model, she consistently received
plaudits, however, on the profit front
she was earning less than when she
had a job. She said “ I love what I do,
and I know I can do more, but......” I
took a look at her marketing” it was
all referrals, and networking. She
wasn’t showcasing to the world the
amazing work she was delivering.
Bertrand Russell, who was a
philosopher, wrote “Fools and
fanatics are always so certain of
themselves, and wiser people are so
full of doubts."
Many women I work with sense they
have much more potential but feel
blocked with fear. Meryl Streep and
Maya Angelou are amongst the high
achieving women who have also faced
this condition.
When I work with women
entrepreneurs we focus on
acknowledging this is just a thought,
not YOU the two things are different.
You can be in control of your
thoughts and when they arise,
practise telling yourself you refuse to
allow these thoughts to take over
your mind.
“Fools and fanatics
are always so
certain of
themselves, and
wiser people are so
full of doubts."

Calmly, brush them away, ask
yourself “does that thought help or
hinder me”? concentrate on the
positive responses you have received
before for the work you have done.
As you practise this you will
strengthen your thoughts, create
more success which will in turn
diminish the negative spiral.
