panel shut lines.
Tamiya supplied an excellent
set of pre-cut masks for the
main glazing, so these could
be brush-painted on the inside
with Citadel Abaddon Black.
Removal of these self-adhesive
coverings subsequently revealed
an incredibly neat edge. After
application of the sponsor decals,
the glazing was eased into the
body and required no adjustment
to position correctly; it was
secured with sparing amounts
of PVA. The rear light clusters
comprised multiple assemblies,
clear red (painted X-27), clear
and chrome. These items did
prove slightly problematic to
insert, as they had to snap-fit
on one corner and glue on the
opposite side. The four front
headlamp and fog lamps had
ST27 carbon fibre decals applied,
followed by 62.062 Premium
Matt Varnish. They then received
chromed lamp inserts, before

being mated to the body,
followed by the clear covers.

“... right behind my back”
Hobby Design’s major upgrade
was an intricate multi-piece
PE radiator complete with
spinning fan, which took hours
to make and involved the use
of micro pins to align the layers
of PE. It certainly wasn’t for
inexperienced modellers and
replaced all body grilles with pre-
formed PE mesh. The remaining
body components and details,
such as panel fasteners, metal
logos and mirrors, were then
attached without issue. Tamiya’s
roof aerial was supplanted by
A+ Club’s MT-003 1/24 Super
GT item, while Sakatsu’s GPS
antenna replaced the kit part.
The last item to be attached
was the rear wing; the styrene
support structure was more than
adequate, but having already
braved making the PE radiator, it

Aftermarket embellishments
Hobby Design’s Detail-up set for T24345 1/24 Mercedes –AMG GT3 (HD02-0364)
contained a bewildering array of components. There were new mesh grilles for
the body shell, seatbelt hardware, AMG door card logos, a stunning radiator sub-
assembly, rear wing supports and airbrush templates for the tyre manufacturer’s
logos. Several items, such as the driver’s mesh protection and front aerodynamic
vanes, weren’t used; the former was supplanted by a scratch-built alternative,
while for the latter Tamiya’s styrene parts were employed.

“the aftermarket additions

raised the refinement to

a whole new level”

 HTP Motorsport’s Battlefield 1-inspired race livery appeared striking once the main
sponsorship, race and trim decals had been applied.

 The PE radiator was prominent when viewed from above, which made the additional
effort worthwhile.
