hen ICM released its all-
new 1/35 WOT6 truck kit,
it seemed the answer to
modellers’ prayers, as it
was the first styrene mainstream-
production offering of this World
War Two workhorse.
However, it quickly attracted
criticism online, in part due to its
vague description – ICM marketed
it as just a Ford WOT6, but failed
to mention the specific sub-
type – yet the parts portrayed a
machinery rear section, albeit
without any workshop equipment.
This type of compartment was
quite different from a general
service cargo bed in that it had
‘gates’ with access (between
the machine positions), while
the sides dropped down to form
workbenches. In comparison,
the general service version had
simple wooden panel sides/back
without any refinements. The
other criticism levelled at the
kit concerned the tyres, which
appeared to have post-war tread
and not the type used during

 There were many tiny and delicate parts,
so a combination of insulation and double-
sided tape was used to cut them safely
from the runners.


Having built the engine
separately, truck
construction started with
the front sub-frame and
transmission.
