PHIL NORTON uses his experience as a photojournalist
and writer to educate the public on the importance of
protecting the quality and quantity of Canada’s water
resources. During the 1980s, his articles on acid rain
and maple dieback in Harrowsmith won two National
Magazine Awards. Based in Prince Edward County,
he now leads birding and photography tours and also
coaches other photographers on how to make a living
in a rural area through countyphotographer.com.

BEN PAKUTS spends his time at the University Health
Network during the work week, where he works on
projects that combine science, writing, art and layout
design. His interests include homesteading, agriculture,
travel, art and music. In his spare time, he creates
clothing and accessories using vintage and secondhand
materials (civictrust.ca).

TRISTAN PEIRCE was born and raised in Hudson,
Quebec, and now calls Port Hope, Ontario, home. By
day, Tristan is an actor and site manager at the award-
winning 4th Line Theatre in Millbrook, Ontario; by night,
he works on his photography.

LYNDON PENNER grew up on a farm in rural
Saskatchewan and has been gardening since he was
three years old. Well known for his passionate, outspoken
and common sense approach to gardening in a harsh
climate, Lyndon has worked in horticulture for much
of his life. He has written for numerous publications
in addition to authoring three bestselling books. He
has lectured at many of Western Canada’s schools and
universities and is a guide and wildflower interpreter at
Waterton Lakes National Park. Lyndon also conducts
tours and presentations at the beautiful Nikka Yuko
Japanese Garden in Lethbridge, Alberta. He is a
strong advocate for both forests and grasslands and is
particularly fond of books, moss and strong coffee.
