JANE REID became a local food fan after moving to
British Columbia, first living in the Fraser Valley, then
Whistler, close to the fertile Pemberton Valley. After
raising a family and working as a pharmacist for many
years, Jane was able to combine her love of the written
word with her passion for locally grown foods in her
new book: Freshly Picked: A Locavore’s Love Affair with
BC’s Bounty (Caitlin Press)—available online and in
B.C. bookstores and libraries.
MARK SIROIS is a senior manager at IBM by day, and
a long-range weather forecaster whenever he can fit it
in his free time. His passion for meteorology started
at age 15, and for the last 30 years he has developed a
multi-faceted approach to long-range forecasting. His
frustrations with the way Canadian mainstream media
broadcasts weather information led him to create an
alternative option to those in southern Quebec. Since
2007, he has offered severe and long-range forecasts
through the Southern Quebec Severe Weather Network
on Facebook; since 2013, he has also been providing his
forecasts via sqswn.ca.
JANE SORENSEN (@janerette) is a multi-
passionate entrepreneur. She evangelizes conservation
(mucking about in dirt and watching animals) at
bigcitylittlehomestead.ca. She also likes learning how
things work, putting spare parts and bits of code to
good use. She develops life-altering tools for self-
efficacy at projectica.org.
LINDA WENTZELL of New Germany, Nova Scotia,
has been studying energy modalities for years. She
is fascinated by the potential to change the mundane
into a landscape of infinite possibility. Her studies
have included the science of dowsing, water dowsing,
mediumship and psychic development, and Usui reiki
master certification. She is currently exploring soul
realignment. She invites you to connect with her at
[email protected].
