Family takeaways
26 August 2019 Time Out UAE Kids
chicken lettuce wraps are a good way to
kick things off – Àlled with punchy Áavours
and heaps of crisp iceberg to wrap it all up
with. Stir-fries, noodles and rice dishes are
all solid choices and this is a sure-Àre winner,
plus portions are massive so it’s an ideal
family feast.

New Shanghai
There are plenty of tasty options on New
Shanghai’s menu with oodles of dim sum,
wontons, dumplings, buns and more. The
dumplings are perfectly cooked, with just
enough Áavoursome broth spilling out after
every satisfying bite (we recommend the
chicken xiao long bao). There’s also a kids’
menu, plus chocolate-Àlled dumplings as
a special treat.

INDIAN & PAKISTANI
Biryani Pot
There are few things more hearty and warming
than a steaming pot of traditional biryani, and
with a name like Biryani Pot, you’d hope this
spot serves up a top version of the rice dish.
And you’d be right. The dish is cooked by the
dum method and comes served in a branded
desserts such as plant-based
chocolate brownies.

Brambles
This cute café has been a hit since landing
in Barsha Heights earlier in 2019. There are
loads of plant-based dishes, as well as options
for vegetarians and meat eaters. Top picks
vegan tacos and avocado pizza. There’s also
a kids’ menu with dishes including spaghetti
and a variety of sauces, chicken teriyaki,
grilled cheese sandwiches and peanut butter,
strawberry and banana toast, all at Dhs25.

SWEET TREATS
Chili’s
An import from the US, Chili’s serves
up all the comfort food favourites that
you could ever possibly need. After
chomping our way through a huge fajita
plate with a side of corn, you’ll Ànd us
burrowing into the dessert menu. It’s
always a tough choice between the
chocolate chip paradise pie – with its
walnuts, coconut, vanilla ice cream and
hot fudge sauce – or the skillet chocolate
chip cookie, which comes out hot straight
from the oven in the pan, topped with vanilla
ice cream and hot fudge sauce. We tend
to order both to be safe.

Bombay Bungalow
Fancy something a little different to serve up
with your NetÁix? The menu at this quirky spot
at The Beach boasts a range of dishes, from
the standard (chicken tikka masala, lamb
rogan josh, samosas), to the far less familiar
(burrata butter chicken, anyone?). Options
on the kids’ menu are wide-ranging and are
designed to appeal to a variety of tastes, so
even if you’ve got a fussy one on your hands
this could be a chance to broaden their
palates. Dishes include golden fried prawns,
Malai chicken, Malai shrimp and a non-spicy
dhal. All are served with fries and salad.
