Food
36 August 2019 Time Out UAE Kids
BOWLING, ARCADE GAMES, soft
play, surÀng and burgers.
Wavehouse is a one-stop shop for
an an activity-Àlled day out with
all the family.
The massive space in Atlantis
is casual and family-friendly.
Alongside a colourful and lively
four-lane bowling alley (which we
absolutely recommend you try
- and book a lane as soon you
arrive) there’s a large upstairs
area packed full of arcade
games, VR games and a soft play
area for the kids.
All the family will be catered
for – there’s even a wave rider, a
machine that shoots more than
seven tonnes of water per second
for knee- or body-boarding.
There’s a separate bar area
for adults too, as well as a
restaurant – plus expansive
outside family-friendly terrace
with views of the wave rider and
large, swinging chairs.
The venue itself is industrial-
cool, with exposed pipes and
bright murals, but while the vibe
is low-key, prices aren’t quite so.
Once you’ve added up drinks,
food, bowling and arcade games
for the whole gang it’s a fair
whack for a night out. However
there is a happy hour on arcade
game credit from 5pm until 7pm
every day where you’ll get 50
percent off credit top ups.
And what you’re really here for
is to keep the kids entertained –
especially in the summer when
the dark, air-conditioned haven is
a welcome respite from the heat.
But while you’re here, there
will be the inevitable cry of “I’m
hungry” and that’s when the food
menu comes in. On our visit the
restaurant is packed, with plenty
of large groups and families.
There’s a special kids’ menu
and it’s not all fast food. You
can opt for choppped salad or
carrot and cucumber sticks with
beetroot hummus at Dhs20 a
serving. Of course there are
the usual cheat day treats of
margharita pizza, Àsh ’n’ chips,
chicken nuggets, spaghetti

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
bolognese and burgers, all
coming in at Dhs40.
Food is Àne but it’s unlikely to
blow you away – and again isn’t
cheap at around Dhs100 for a
burger from the adult menu.
Portions are large, and the
sweet potato fries are crisp
and tasty. However, a Àsh Ànger
sandwich is stodgy with heavy,
battered Àsh pieces, while the
chicken panko burger is on
the tough side, but is lifted by
mango and avocado.
But really food isn’t
essential – visit Wavehouse
for the games, entertainment
and fun – and in that
Wavehouse scores.
