Food
40 August 2019 Time Out UAE KidsTHIS MASSIVE FAMILY-friendly brunch at
Fairways is part of a UAE institution. It mightnot come cheap, but it’s worth pushing
the boat out to visit this huge feast thathas seemingly unending food stations with
everything from Asian stir-fries to pizza, sushi
and mezze on offer. On our visit it’s heaving with families and
groups of friends, and the friendly staffprovide a warm welcome. Service is swift and
helpful and you won’t be wanting for a drink orfood to be cleared away at all.
Our advice? Go for a sweep of the room to
plan out your tactics for the afternoon. There’sso much to choose from that you’ll need to be
clever if you have any hope of sampling all thebest bits before you’re totally stuffed.
There’s a huge spread of fresh salads, seafood, meats, curries, Asian dishes, sushi,
cheese and so many other tempting options
that it’s almost overwhelming.Kick off with a sharing a plate of maki rolls
and tempura seafood and you’ll be happyenough. The battered pieces of shrimp and
calamari are light and they’ve clearly only justbeen delivered from the kitchen. Dipped in
the aioli dressing each mouthful is absolutely
delightful. The veggie maki rolls, packed full ofcreamy avocado, are also top, plus the vibrant
crab California rolls are fresh and tasty. The bites of seafood are delicately put
together, while the cheese table is a sight tobehold – deÀnitely one for fromage fans.
Whether you like your cheese blue andpungent or mild and creamy, you’ll Ànd every
variety you could ever want on the long table
here, including some of the biggest wheelsof brie we’ve ever seen. There’s fresh bread,
jams and honey to go with them too.The highlight of the mains is without a
doubt the barbecue station. We opt for chicken and lamb skewers, and
a piece of steak. The latter is perfectly cooked
and it’s obviously very high quality meat. The skewers are both marinated well, and
the pieces of meat go wonderfully with thecolourful salad selection.
As well as all the usual items that you’dexpect to Ànd on any good salad and
mezze bar, there are also a few inventive
combinations – a special shout out should goto the sautéed courgette and mushroom and
vibrant beetroot versions.Don’t miss sneaking a duck
pancake to the side of yourplate either – the combination
of sweet plum sauce and
crunchy cucumber is fantastic. The vibe is consistently
lively and upbeat, and theafternoon seems to pass by in
a Áash. There’s entertainmentin the form of live music as well as kids’
entertainment such as face painting and apetting zoo, too.
Remember to save room for pudding –they’re well worth the treat. The dessert
selection demands repeat visits, with an
eye-catchingly vibrant selection of cakes andsweets, which will delight little brunchers, too.
