TECHNIQUE

Treating the wound

After creating the wound, it is important to ensure the edges are flush to the
trunk so that it heals more attractively, even if the wound becomes larger

Wound sealant is put over the wound once it has been made smooth. The coat of
sealant should be as thin as possible to just cover the wound

The lower left branch after removing the thick
branch. No thick, coarse branches remain

Front after wiring to correct the branches. The ends
of the wire have been left long so that it is easy to
remove during the growing season

As seen from above. The fine branching makes it feel
light. A minimum amount of wire has been applied

Before work begins. Seen from above. The buds are
opening

After thinning the branches. Unwanted twigs
and branches are removed and elongated branches
shortened

After wiring. Branches have been wired and corrected
to form the outline of a foliage pad

Wiring the lower left branch
Wiring is best done once the leaves have hardened off and the tree is defoliated in June; however, it is possible to do it in the spring
so long as the shoots are not allowed to elongate and thicken. You only need to wire the thinner branches to apply corrections.
