WEAK RACE FOR THE TRACK
SMUGGLER (Marcus Tregoning) was
the paddock pick although he looked
in need of the experience both mental-
ly and physically. That didn’t stop him
being nibbled at in the betting and the
punt would have been landed but for a
moderate effort from jockey Pat
Dobbs. He’ll win races if connections
don’t fly too high.

FAIR CONTEST
DECEMBER SECOND (Philip Kirby)
boasted smart bumper form and
looked in good nick for this Flat debut.
He travelled enthusiastically, ran a blin-
der to finish second and improved
again when runner-up at Doncaster a
fortnight later. The Kirby yard know
their onions and he will develop into a
smart staying handicapper.
KEMPTON June 26 (standard to slow)
6f two-year-old novice (Class 4)
RACE THAT WILL PRODUCE WIN-
NERS
QAADDIM (Roger Varian) cost
200,000gns at the breeze-ups and
already looks like a three-year-old. It
was disappointing to see him fall out
of the gates, but there was plenty to
like about the way he finished to nab
fourth. Improvement is guaranteed
and this fella could develop into a
classy sprinter.

COMPETITIVE RACE
LOCAL HISTORY (James Tate) was
ridiculously easy to back but bossed
this from the front and was unlucky to
be mugged late. She’s got more than
enough pace to cope with a drop back
to 6f and will surely win a handicap or
two.
LINGFIELD June 29 (good,
good-firm in places)
5f two-year-old novice (Class 5)
IMPRESSIVE WINNER
RAAHY (George Scott) is a smashing
individual – laid-back but with a real
engine when the stalls open. He had
this field stone cold after hitting the
gates running and could ruffle some
feathers at a higher level later this
summer. Do not underestimate this
speedball.
WINDSOR June 30 (good to firm)
5f three-year-old handicap
FAIR RACE
JUNIUS BRUTUS (Ralph Beckett) was
running in Group races last season. He
still looked backward in his coat here
and did well to finish a close second
behind the well-bet Amplify. He’ll
come on again for the run and will win
something similar soon.
WINDSOR July 1 (good-firm)
5f two-year-old fillies’ maiden (Class 5)
MODEST RACE
BOCKOS AMBER (Roger Teal) was the
subject of positive home reports and is
a bonny looking filly. That said, she
was definitely in need of the outing
and predictably ran out of gas just
after halfway. Connections report that
she found the ground too quick and
plan to give her time and wait for
some rain. Keep her in mind for an
autumn campaign in nurseries.
KEMPTON July 3 (standard-slow)
7f two-year-old fillies’ novice (Class 5)
