Racing Ahead – August 2019

(WallPaper) #1

12

day break/debut for a new yard. He
was never really put in the race by
David Probert, but caught the eye
staying on through dead-wood to nab
sixth. He’ll leave this form behind and
could be a useful dual-purpose per-
former.

USEFUL EVENT
MASTER SPY (Paul Cole) really took
the eye in the paddock but looked
green to post and got unsettled in the
stalls. He did well to stick on for fifth
after blowing-up at the furlong pole
and will improve significantly for the
outing. There’s much more to come
from him.

1m2f three-year-old novice (Class 5)
SMART FORM
AWAY HE GOES (Ismail Mohammed)

is a strong colt who shaped encourag-
ingly behind a smart one on his debut
three weeks earlier. He did well to win
this after being trapped on the rail for
much of the straight and clearly has a
decent engine. He’s with a shrewd
yard and can win a big pot.

ASCOT July 12 (good-firm,
good in places)
6f handicap (Class 3)
IMPRESSIVE WINNER
SWINDLER (Ed Walker) looked fit as a
flea on this return from a 275-day
break and was bet like a good thing.
He duly obliged under a super confi-
dent ride from Liam Keniry and is a
classy sprinter in the making. He trav-
els like a Group horse and must be
followed.

ASCOT July 13 (good-firm,
good in places)
7f two-year-old novice (Class 3)

ABOVE AVERAGE RACE
BERKSHIRE ROCCO (Andrew Bald-
ing) was absolutely hammered in
the betting but ran green until half-
way and wasn’t knocked about to
run home fourth. There’s every
reason to believe he’ll improve for
the run - he was edgy in the prelims

  • and a bold bid is predicted next
    time.

1m4f three-year-old handicap (Class
2)
RED-HOT CONTEST
FAYLAQ (William Haggas) really is a
handsome individual and looked in
tip-top condition. He appeared to
have the race in safe-keeping when
hitting the front at the furlong pole,
but ran green under pressure and was
chinned by Floating Artist. There’s
definitely more to come from Faylaq
and he can develop into a
Listed/Group horse.
