front but was closely followed by Visi-
nari who travelled strongly for Frankie
Dettori and that pair took the lead with
two and a half furlongs to go. He was
unable to shake off his rivals as he had
done on debut, coming under pressure
a furlong and a half from the finish,
strongly challenged by Platinum Star
inside the last furlong with Royal
Lytham making good progress from
the rear to have every chance. Visinari
couldn’t quite see it out, edging left
inside the last 100 yards and was
headed close to the finish by Royal
Lytham who was a short head in front
of Platinum Star with Visinari a head
away in third. Guildsman stayed on to
be fourth but never managed to chal-
lenge whilst King Neptune faded and
will probably be suited by a drop to 5f.
Royal Lytham provided Aidan
O’Brien with a first win in the race since
2005 and the first Group winner for his
exciting first season stallion Glenea-
gles. He is likely to be aimed at a Group
1 race in Ireland for his next start, either

the National Stakes or Phoenix Stakes.
The second and third could meet in the
Group 2 Vintage Stakes over 7f at the
Qatar Goodwood Festival. It was inter-
esting to note that Visinari’s trainer
Mark Johnston wanted to run in the 7f
Superlative Stakes on day three of the
July Festival but his son and assistant,
Charlie, thought he would be more
suited to the 6f July Stakes having
recorded just a fast time on his debut.
He is bred to be better over 7f and he
will head to Goodwood, a meeting the
yard do very at, with strong claims.
Six of the nine runners in the 6f fillies
maiden were making their racecourse
debuts, DUBAI PARADISE from the
Charlie Appleby yard, the 10/
favourite, but it was two who had had
two previous starts, MISS LUCY (well
beaten at Catterick on her previous
run) and DAILY TIMES (run out of it
close home by WREN at Kempton on
her second start) who fought out the
finish with Miss Lucy getting the better
of the long-time leader close home to

win by three quarters of a length with
EAST OF EDEN, an expensive breeze-
up purchase from the Hugo Palmer
yard, running well in third having pulled
very hard early on. Dubai Paradise
could finish only fourth.
Miss Lucy was the ninth two-year-old
winner of the year for Karl Burke, who,
after a slow start, has his horses in
good form and is a trainer to keep an
eye on as the season progresses.
Just like the July Stakes on day one,
the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge
Stakes on day two featured plenty of
Royal Ascot form. Whereas there were
placed horses in the July Stakes, there
were two Royal Ascot winners in the
Duchess Of Cambridge, RAFFLE
PRIZE who won the Queen Mary and
had to carry a 3lb penalty for that win,
and DAAHYEH winner of the Albany
and bidding to extend her unbeaten
record to three. The Queen Mary third,
FINAL SONG and Albany runner-up
CELTIC BEAUTY also took their chance
in a field of seven. Daahyeh had
