FROM THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF
Dear Guests,
Welcome onboard.
Malaysia is well-known for its bright and exotic
environment. With a daily dose of sunshine, it often feels
like summer all year long. However, this year’s summer
months bring even more joy and excitement as we
celebrate the festivities of Eid al-Adha, one of the most
important events in the Islamic calendar, known as the
Feast of the Sacrifice, and Merdeka, our Independence
Day on 31 August. If you are around Kuala Lumpur on
that day, be sure to check out the Merdeka Day Parade
at the federal government’s administrative capital,
Putrajaya – an annual showcase filled with a march-past,
cultural performances, military demonstrations and
colourful floats. In celebration of this special day, we have
refurnished our planes with new pillows and comforters
with abstract songket patterns – a nod to traditional
Malaysian art, but with a modern twist.
I am delighted to announce the launch of MHholidays, our new
online booking service that allows you to combine exclusive
flight and hotel package deals in Malaysia and in more than
50 destinations abroad, including firm favourites like London,
Tokyo, Phuket and Melbourne. MHholidays was initiated to
provide you with the best of our extensive worldwide network,
giving up to 80 percent savings on hotels through our trusted
partners. Here at Malaysia Airlines, we believe in diversity and
inclusivity. When creating MHholidays, we sourced more than
5,000 diverse hotel partners to ensure there are suitable and
comfortable choices for all our guests. You can filter by budget,
rating or area preferences, and we will generate bespoke
recommendations for you. From economical family stays to
five-star luxuries – there is something for everyone. In addition
to these exclusive deals, booking through MHholidays also
credits your Enrich account with more airmiles, so your next
holiday is never too far off the horizon.
As you may have heard, Malaysians love food. When a guest
enters our home, the first question we ask is not “how are
you?” but “have you eaten?” Staying true to our home roots,
Malaysia Airlines has introduced the Best of Malaysia culinary
series, a set of continuously evolving heritage dishes that
include local specialities such as Hainanese roasted chicken
rice, nasi kerabu and the delectable chee cheong fun. You can
enjoy these dishes 30,000 feet in the air. And if you happen to
be passing through our Golden Lounge, do take the opportunity
to check out the Laksa Bar – a special corner dedicated to the
seminal Malaysian dish, with different varieties from different
states. We bring four of the most popular versions of laksa to
you, so make sure you save space for a second round!
Finally, Malaysia and Singapore share many commercial
and cultural ties. We share people, languages and a bridging
highway between our two countries that is nearly always
flowing with traffic! I am pleased to announce that this natural
partnership has extended to our national airlines. Earlier in
July, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Singapore Airlines to explore a wide-ranging strategic
cooperation to build on our existing code-share agreement
between Malaysia and Singapore. For the first time, we are
including all five airlines under both Groups, including lower-
cost options such as Scoot and the turbo-prop service by
Firefly. With this agreement, in addition to our collaboration
with Japan Airlines (JAL), we hope to enhance our customer
proposition by providing you with greater global connectivity
and more service offerings across the Asia Pacific region.
Thank you for choosing Malaysia Airlines. Please sit back, relax
and enjoy your Malaysian “home away from home”. ■
