CUT FABRICS
Cut pieces in the following order.
Organize the eight fat quarters into
four pairs of complementary prints.
Choose one fabric from each pair to
be used for the star points and chain
of squares in the block corners; label
these prints A. The remaining fabric
in each pair will be used for the block
centers and diamond shapes; label
these prints B.
Designer Corey Yoder prefers to
make triangle-squares larger than
necessary and trim them to size. To use
this method, cut 2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares instead
of the 2^3 ⁄ 8 " squares listed in cutting
instructions.
From each A print, cut:
▫ 4—3^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
▫ 8—2× 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 12—2" squares
From each B print, cut:
▫ 1—3^1 ⁄ 2 " square
▫ 12—2× 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 4—2^3 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 8—2" squares
From cream tone-on-tone, cut:
▫ 2—2×41" border strips
▫ 3—2×38" sashing and border strips
▫ 2—2× 181 ⁄ 2 " sashing strips
▫ 16—3^1 ⁄ 2 × 61 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 32—2× 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 16—2^3 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 160—2" squares
From coral print, cut:
▫ 5—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" binding strips
ASSEMBLE BLOCKS
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
- Gather all pieces from one pair
of prints. From cream tone-on-tone,
gather four 3^1 ⁄ 2 × 61 ⁄ 2 " rectangles, eight
2 × 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangles, four 2^3 ⁄ 8 " squares,
and forty 2" squares. - Referring to Diagram 1, lay out
three A print 2" squares, two cream
tone-on-tone 2× 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangles, and
two cream tone-on-tone 2" squares
in three rows. Sew together pieces in
rows. Join rows to make a corner unit.
The unit should be 5" square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make four
corner units total. - Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
on wrong side of 24 cream tone-on-
tone 2" squares, cream tone-on-tone
23 ⁄ 8 " squares, and B print 2" squares.
