BLANKET STITCH
To blanket-stitch, pull needle up at
A (Blanket Stitch Diagram). Form a
reverse L shape with floss. Holding
angle of L shape in place with your
thumb, push needle down at B and
come up at C to secure stitch. Continue
in the same manner to make the
desired number of blanket stitches.
SINGLE FEATHERSTITCH
To featherstitch, pull needle up at A
(Single Featherstitch Diagram); form
a V shape with floss. Holding the angle
in place with your thumb, push needle
down at B, to right of A. Come up at
C and push needle back down at D to
secure the stitch. Continue in the same
manner to make the desired number of
single featherstitches.
FRENCH KNOT
To make a French knot, pull needle
up at A (French Knot Diagram), the
point where knot is desired. Wrap floss
around needle the number of times
indicated on the stitch key (from two
to four times). Insert tip of needle into
fabric at B,^1 ⁄ 16 " away from A. Gently
push wraps down needle to meet fabric.
Pull needle and trailing floss through
fabric slowly and smoothly. Repeat to
make the desired number of French
knots.
LAZY DAISY STITCH
To make lazy daisy stitches, pull needle
up at A (Lazy Daisy Stitch Diagram);
form a loop of floss on fabric surface.
Holding the loop in place, insert needle
back into fabric at B, about^1 ⁄ 16 " from
A. Bring needle tip out at C and cross
it over trailing floss, keeping floss as
flat as possible. Gently pull needle and
trailing floss until loop lies flat against
fabric. Push needle back down at D to
secure loop. Repeat to make the desired
number of lazy daisy stitches.
RUNNING STITCH
To make running stitches, pull needle
up at A (Running Stitch Diagram).
Insert it back into fabric at B, come up
at C, about^1 ⁄ 4 " away from B, and push it
back down at D. Continue in the same
manner to make the desired number of
running stitches.
STEM STITCH
To stem-stitch, pull needle up at A
(Stem Stitch Diagram). Insert it back
into fabric at B and bring it up at C.
Insert needle at D and pull it up at E.
Continue in the same manner to make
the desired number of stem stitches.
STRAIGHT STITCH
To straight-stitch, pull needle up at
A (Straight Stitch Diagram). Insert
it back into fabric at B, bring it up at
C, and push it down at D. Continue in
the same manner to make the desired
number of straight stitches.
