CUT FABRICS
Cut pieces in the following order.
From cream print, cut:
▫ 12—7^1 ⁄ 4 " squares, cutting each
diagonally twice in an X for 48
triangles total
▫ 24—3^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
From green print, cut:
▫ 12—3^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 6—3^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From rust print, cut:
▫ 9—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" binding strips
▫ 24—3^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 6—3^1 ⁄ 2 × 6 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 6—3^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From gold print, cut:
▫ 24—6^7 ⁄ 8 " squares, cutting each in
half diagonally for 48 triangles
total
From ivory print, cut:
▫ 17—4^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
▫ 136—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From dark teal print, cut:
▫ 68—2^1 ⁄ 2 × 4 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From teal print, cut:
▫ 68—2^1 ⁄ 2 × 8 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From white metallic print, cut:
▫ 12—3^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 6—3^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
▫ 12—2^3 ⁄ 4 " squares
▫ 12—2× 9 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 12—2× 12 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From teal stripe, cut:
▫ 8—3^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" strips for border
ASSEMBLE BLOCK A
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
- Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
on wrong side of each cream print 3^7 ⁄ 8 "
square. - Layer a marked cream print square
atop a green print 3^7 ⁄ 8 " square. Sew
together with two seams, stitching
(^1) ⁄ 4 " on each side of drawn line
(Diagram 1). Cut pair apart on drawn
line; press open to make two green
triangle-squares. Each triangle-square
should be 3^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
allowances. Repeat to make 24 green
triangle-squares total.
- Using remaining marked cream
print squares and 12 rust print 3^7 ⁄ 8 "
squares, repeat Step 2 to make 24 rust
triangle-squares (Diagram 2). - Referring to Diagram 3, pair two
green triangle-squares with two rust
triangle-squares; sew together in pairs.
Join pairs to make a Pinwheel unit. The
unit should be 6^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 12
Pinwheel units total. - Sew cream print triangles to
opposite edges of a Pinwheel unit
(Diagram 4). Add cream print
triangles to remaining edges.
