- Referring Diagram 11, sew white
metallic print 2× 9 1 ∕ 2 " rectangles to
opposite edges of a leaf unit. Join white
print 2× 12 1 ∕ 2 " rectangles to remaining
edges to make Block C. The block
should be 12^1 ∕ 2 " square including seam
allowances. Repeat to make six total of
Block C.
ASSEMBLE QUILT TOP
- Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram, lay out blocks in seven
rows, alternating and rotating blocks
as shown. Sew together blocks in
rows. Press seams in one direction,
alternating direction with each row.
Join rows to make quilt center. Press
seams in one direction. The quilt
center should be 60^1 ∕ 2 × 84 1 ∕ 2 " including
seam allowances.
- Piece and cut teal stripe 3^1 ∕ 2 ×42"
strips to make:
▫ 2—3^1 ∕ 2 × 84 1 ∕ 2 " border strips
▫ 2—3^1 ∕ 2 × 66 1 ∕ 2 " border strips - Sew long border strips to long
edges of quilt center. Add short border
strips to remaining edges to complete
quilt top. Press all seams toward
border.
FINISH QUILT
- Layer quilt top, batting, and backing;
baste. (For details, see Complete Quilt,
page 103.)
“Living in the Midwest, I enjoy the change of seasons,”
quilt tester Martha Gamm says. “And as temperatures
drop, I yearn to decorate for Halloween!” With that in
mind, she included spooky novelty prints in her twist
on Autumn Picnic. She added a splash of olive green to
give the 42^1 ∕ 2 "-square wall hanging a modern vibe.
