ASSEMBLE UNITS

Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.

  1. Layer a solid cream B piece atop
    a solid fuchsia A piece (Diagram 1).

Sometimes I use Photoshop to test out quilting motifs, however,
most of the time I print a copy of my quilt top, and gather a pencil,
ruler, and eraser, and try out motifs the low tech way.
—Heather Black, designer

Align and pin center matching points.
Pin matching points at each end; pin
generously in between (Diagram 2),
gently easing edges as needed.

  1. Sew together pieces, removing each
pin just before the needle reaches it,
to make a fuchsia Unit A (Diagram 3).
    The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances.
