For her version of Crossing
Through, quilt tester Martha Gamm
used both mottled and solid colors
and made deliberate placement
choices.
“When arranging the completed
blocks in diagonal rows, I purposely
placed some complementary color
blocks next to one another,” Martha
says. “Those really pop. In other
cases, I placed blocks of similar
colors next to one another, and
they are less noticeable. These
decisions resulted in a dynamic
and vibrant quilt top that keeps the
eye moving.”

FABRICS are from the Toscana and Basics
collections from Northcott (northcott.com).

Op o

QUILTED

In this project I used two layers of Hobbs 80/20
batting. I chose Magnifico, a 40-weight, two-ply
polyester thread manufactured by Superior Threads,
and matched thread colors with fabric colors. I
stitched in the ditch around the sections of color
using monofilament thread. To finish the setting
and corner triangles, I stitched a piano keys design
with purple thread.
