Like many knife professionals, Adam
is a huge fan of knives and a friend of
knifemakers. He has collected their
knives since 1988, including the work of
such makers as Virgil England, BLADE
Magazine Cutlery Hall Of Fame® member
Gil Hibben, Yoshindo Yoshihara, Jim
Schmidt, Daniel Winkler, R.J. Martin,
Kirby Lambert, the Sobral Brothers, Jason
Knight, Samuel Lurquin and others. He is
good friends with many of them and their
families, and they with him.
Nonetheless, with Adam it’s hard not
to return to the movie thing. In fact, his
words about how he originally dealt with
stage fright are instructive of the man. “I
think when you’re beginning it’s kind of
impossible to avoid the stage fright, the
nervousness,” he said “Hopefully, if you do
it enough you learn to compartmentalize it
and turn it into something else and realize
it for what it is and realize there’s really
not anything to be nervous about. You
should take that nervousness and turn it
into excitement. You’re excited to have the
opportunity. Th at way you have a much
healthier attitude.”
Adam’s words apply to life in general.
What’s more, his successes in both the knife
and movie industries are the kind of thing
we look for in those who make our industry
so dynamic. Hence, the winner of the
BLADE Magazine 2019 Publisher’s Award
is “the guy who was in that thing”—Adam
Drescher.
