64 BLADE SEPTEMBER 2019
your arm out faster.
The blade is 1075 carbon steel for
ease of maintenance in the field, and a
whopping 19.125 inches. A black epoxy
coat helps protect it from corrosion
and ref lecting light.
The tanto blade shape offers plenty
of real estate to take out saplings with
ease. This machete has tons of reach!
It also has impressive cutting power.
It wasn’t what I would call “shaving-
sharp” out of the box, but, like an
axe, it uses inertia to carry the blade
through. Indeed, I was able to sever
a few saplings with it. It’s more work
than using a standard 18-inch-blade
machete, but, since you can use both
hands, swinging this bad boy around
is impressive.
The rounded, radiused handle felt
very comfortable. I wore work gloves
while swinging it and not once did
I experience slippage, nor feel as if I
were going to lose control over such a
big blade.
Condor’s models are expertly craft ed
in El Salvador and defi nitely are users.
Sure, there’s no fl ash to them, but designs
and materials are what works. Condor’s
knives are meant to be used and beat
up. Th e Yoshimi easily withstood all the
swinging. Th e edge is thick enough for
strength and the handle is thick enough
to get a good purchase. Weighing in
at 2.96 pounds, the machete takes an
eff ort to carry with you.
Each Yoshimi has a well-made
Kydex sheath with MOLLE-compatible
webbing straps. It is almost pointless
to strap it to your belt because the
weight would drag you down, and the
long blade swinging at your side can
be a bit distracting. This is the type
of cutting tool to stow in your pickup
truck, UTV or ATV to grab only when
needed. MSRP: $199.
