a numberofyearsagowhenIsaacKatzoff
andStephenBradbournestartedmaking
glasstogetherona casualbasis.Both
artistswerealreadyhighlyexperienced
glassblowers– andit wasn’tlongbefore
theyrecognisedtheirsharedaestheticand
designbeliefs.ThepairformedMonmouth
in 2012 withanemphasisoncreating
well-designed,hand-madeglassware
foreverydayuse,withanequalfocus
onfunctionalityandbeauty.
Whyopena store?We’vehadthedream
ofopeningourownretailspacefora
coupleforyearsnow.Wefeltwereally
neededtoshowcasetheMonmouthrange
initsowndedicatedspace,freefromany
distractions.Thestorefit-outis clean,
minimalandmodern,whichallowsthe
fullproductrangetotakecentrestage.
Whodesignedthenewstore?Gus
DobsonofMadeBycamein witha bunch
ofreallygoodideas.Wehada loose
brief– a gallery-likespacetoshowoff
theglass.Hereallyhit the mark with
thiscleanspace.
Whatdoyousell?TheMonmouthstore
showcasesthefullrangeoflightingand
tableware(carafesandglasses),alongside
newcollectionsoffunctionalhomewares
andone-offsculpturalpieces.
You’veoutgrownyourglassblowing
studio– a placethatrunsat1110°C
aroundtheclock,sevendaysa week.
Whereareyoumovingto?Yes,wesimply
didn’thaveenoughroomtodoeverything
weneededtodo.Afterlookingfora while,
anidealspacepresenteditselfin West
Auckland.It’spurecoincidencethatthe
movehascoincidedwithopeningthe
retailspace,butthetiming is perfect.
