NEEDLES AND TOOLS


  • 6.50mm knitting needles for beanie

  • 7.00mm knitting needles for scarf

  • Crochet hook for scarf fringe

  • Wool sewing needle


MEASUREMENTS
Beanie: to fit head 56cm
Scarf: 21 x 170 cm (excluding fringe)

TENSION
For Beanie: 14.5 sts by 20 rows =
10cm over stocking st, using 6.50mm
needles.
For Scarf: 14 sts by 19 rows =
10cm over stocking st, using 7.00mm
needles.

WORKING PATTERN
BEANIE
Using 6.50mm needles, cast on 86 sts.
Row 1: K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Row 2: P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep last 2 rows until work measures
30cm from beg, ending with a 1st
ro w.
Next Row: P2, * K4, P2, rep from *
to end.
Next row: K2, * P4, K2 rep from *
to end.
Rep last 2 rows 6 times.

Shape crown
Row 1: P2, * K2, K2tog, P2, rep from
* to end. 72 sts.
Row 2: K2, * P3, K2, rep from * to end.
Row 3: P2, * K3, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep 2nd and 3rd rows once, then 2nd
row once.
Row 7: P2, * K1, K2tog, P2, rep from
* to end. 58 sts.
Row 8: K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Row 9: P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep 8th and 9th rows once, then 8th
row once.
Row 13: P2, * K2tog, P2, rep from *
to end. 44 sts.
Row 14: K2, * P1, K2, rep from * to
end.
Break off yarn, run end through rem sts,
draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

TO MAKE UP
Join seam, reversing for 24cm at
lower edge for brim. Fold brim up
twice. Secure brim with decorative
button or brooch.
