DeusneraboutthenewBonIveralbum.“I’vealwaysbeen
obsessedwithmusicandwhatit doestopeople,”hesays.
“BobMarleywasa hugethingforme– wow,heactuallychangedthepolitical
landscapeinJamaica.I liketheideaofthepowerthatprayerhas.If musicis the
religion,thenthesesongsareprayerstosimplybeingpeopleonEarth.”

a forumforspiritualissues,politicalissues,revolutionaryissues.”
Jaan first met Patti in Detroit in the early ’70s, when she was writing forthe
legendaryCreemmagazine.Jaanwasthere,too,whenPattifirstmetherfuture
husband,Fred“Sonic”Smithat theLafayetteConeyIslandhotdogemporium.
JaanhasspokenwithPattionmanyoccasionssincethen,andourexceptional
