The Power in
Pushing Back

Thank you for the excellent
May cover story about
women’s pain. My 41-year-
old daughter could have been the
subject of this article. I do wish the piece had included
information about what women experiencing chronic pain should
do as they wait for the medical system to improve. As the story
points out, “Changes will take time to filter down.” My daughter is
almost totally pain-free now, but it took me encouraging her to be
firm and not to settle—to demand her doctor’s full attention and
expertise. Had I not read this article, I wouldn’t have believed this
archaic mentality toward women’s health existed so widely in the
medical community. Thank you for further illuminating this issue.
