TV & Satellite Week – 17 August 2019

(Brent) #1
Ned hasn’t taken Ross’ advice
to lie low. Has he been his own
worst enemy with that kind
of stubbornness, do you think?
McLean Yes, I think that’s right –
the difference between Ned and
Ross is that Ross knows how to
play the game and Ned doesn’t,
which is why you could see the
seeds of his demise.
Regan Ned engages his mouth
before he engages his brain
on quite a few occasions. He’s
an impulsive person and his
impetuous behaviour gets him
in real trouble. Ned and Ross
are a bit like Butch Cassidy and
the Sundance Kid, though Ned
can be a bit too Butch Cassidy
and not enough Sundance.

Kitty’s now pregnant with their
longed-for child. After the
happiness of that discovery, how
does she cope knowing that her
husband is facing the gallows?
McLean Kitty is quite formidable.
She’s a really intelligent woman
and a bit of a force of nature, so
she’s writing letters and being an
activist. She’s quite strategic and is
extremely determined to free Ned.
She won’t stand back and wait.
Their story is so captivating.

Ross decides to stage a
jailbreak to try to save his
friend. What happens?
Regan As Ross tries to get Ned
out of jail, Ned tells him that he is
everything that he wanted to be.
It’s a really interesting relationship
between them. It’s so nice to see
central characters who are acting
in very altruistic ways and working
with the best motives. Ned’s very
aware of Ross’ goodness.

Is it true that Ned and Kitty are
based on real-life characters?
Regan I hadn’t heard about Ned
until I started on Poldark, but
yes, he was a real person. I did a
level of research and you can get
information online that tells
you everything about the whole
treason trial. I’d hate for Poldark
viewers not to be aware that Ned
was a real character and there was
an injustice when it came to how
he was treated by the state.
McLean There’s not a lot written
about Kitty. It’s just astounding
how, as a black woman, she’s kind
of been written out of history, even
though she was writing letters to
the Prime Minister to try to get
Ned pardoned. I feel honoured
to be able to give her a voice.

feels uneasy at having the house
to herself. There’s only so long
she can keep her feelings under
control, and as she and Nate are
alone in the barn, they sink into
the hay and do the deed. What
will Cain do if he finds out?

iiA break from the village
has done nothing to quell
Moira’s lust for Nate. She says
and does all the right things
in a bid to keep her hunky
farmhand at bay, but once
they’re alone she succumbs
to temptation.
Moira initially
hopes that by putting
all her energy into
her marriage, she’ll be
able to forget about
her employee. But
Nate can sense that
she’s still attracted to
him and, as she gets
ready for a date with
Cain, he pulls her
in for a kiss. Moira
submits to the moment,
and Nate has to hide when
Cain comes in. She insists later
that nothing can happen
between them again... but
who is she fooling?
The next day, as Cain goes
off for some drinks, Moira

ii PLUS Harriet reunites with
Will, Jacob finds out he flunked
his GCSEs, Bear is embarrassed
about being illiterate, Graham
is on the trail of his secret chess

Will Nate come
between Moira
and Cain?

along with Dean (Kiell Smith-Bynoe),

Julian’s favourite employee.

Meanwhile, the rivalry that Stath

had with his bossy colleague Carole

(Katy Wix) is stronger than ever.

The pair had a drunken one-night

stand, shortly before a disgusted

Carole told Stath it was the biggest

mistake of her life.

‘The love-hate thing they had

has become hate-hate,’ smiles

Demetriou, whose sister Natasia

reprises her role as Stath’s

on-screen sibling, Sophie.

The softly-spoken

Sophie, who is arguably

even more stupid

than her big

brother, has a

huge crush

on eager-

to-please

colleague Al

(Al Roberts) and

is now focusing on a singing career
with her friend Katia (Ellie White).
‘Working with my sister is a dream
because Natasia brings a sense of our
childhood to the set that no one else
could,’ says Demetriou, whose father
also had a small role in series one.
So will their father be coming
back in series two?
‘Er, Dad was great, but that
character has now moved to an
entirely different country,’ he laughs.
‘Having said that, the storylines
are more family-focused this time.
All Stath really wants to do
is start a family. As a
Mediterranean guy,
he feels he’s lagging
behind. He’s 29,
so as far as he’s
concerned, he
should have
had about 15
kids by now!’
