Brass bands were born out of 19th-century
industrialisation, with the bands playing a vital

in various contests, including the National
Championships at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Alan and Russell
hit the road

for this movie but I think it’s worth it.

It’s funny, and laughter is my legacy.

I want to make people belly-laugh.’

Wayans has been doing that most

of his adult life, since appearing with

his brother Shawn in US sitcom The

Wayans Bros, then teaming up with

him again in Scary Movie, Scary

Movie 2, White Chicks and Little Man.

TRUSTED TEAM

Collaborating with the people he

trusts is important for Wayans. He

co-wrote and produced Sextuplets

with Rick Alvarez – his co-creator

on hit comedy-horror films A

Haunted House and A Haunted

House 2. Michael Tiddes directs,

having directed Wayans’ previous

Netflix film Naked, as well as his
erotic spoof Fifty Shades of Black.
‘Sextuplets is a special film,’ says
Wayans. ‘I just love going out and
telling jokes. It’s why God put me
here. I want people to think, “I
believed him in every role he played
and damn, he was funny.”’
Wayans is currently working
on Apple TV+ movie On The Rocks,
starring Bill Murray and Rashida
Jones and directed by Oscar-winner
Sofia Coppola (see page 14).
‘I love how the streaming services
embrace comedy and diversity,’ he
says. ‘They let you make the movie
you want to make. Not everything
has to be a superhero movie.’
